What is a tangram?

The tangram is a classic dissection puzzle from China. A square is cut into seven flat shapes: five right triangles of different sizes, one square, and one parallelogram. Those seven pieces can form thousands of different silhouettes — animals, people, houses and abstract shapes. Tangrams are a wonderful brain exercise for spatial reasoning and geometry thinking, and a favorite classroom activity for kids.
